(Jenna is expecting her second litter! Everything is fine until )
The moon was just rising, and billions of stars appeared. The sky slowly transformed from purple to midnight blue. It was snowy and cold outside, but inside the boiler room it was toasty warm. Jenna rested her head on Balto's shoulder. The 2 dogs gazed calmly into the fire before them.
Balto shifted his weight, which woke up the sleepy Jenna. "Oh," said Balto seeing that he had woken the husky. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to wake you."
Jenna smiled warmly, and laughed. "Balto, you worry too much. I'm fine." She lay down again.
"Jenna," said Balto suddenly. "How do you think Aleu is? I mean, do you think those wolves are treating her OK? You know, she IS half husky and they might not like that." Balto sounded worried.
Jenna raised her head again, and looked into Balto's eyes. "Balto," She whispered soothingly. "Aleu is fine. Mist is fine. Dingo is fine. Kira is fine, and Whisper is fine. They are ALL fine. Now, will you pleasego to sleep?" She rubbed against him lovingly. "Come to think of it," said Jenna in a strange voice. "I enjoyed our pups, and I miss them dearly. We could have more to give to the humans you know how it makes them happy when they have puppies in their arms."
She smiled. Balto looked at her curiously. "Jenna are you saying you ant to have pups again?"
Jenna nodded, and said, "Balto, almost every dog in this town has at least 3 litters we've had 1." Balto smiled at her. She smiled back. They began to nuzzle, and later that night Jenna's stomach began to grow with a new life inside it.
Jenna awoke the next morning, feeling very ill. She threw up at least 5 times, and finally had to go to the vet's office. Balto peeked worriedly into the window. The vet was feeling Jenna's stomach, and shaking his head. He turned to Rosie's dad and said, (although Balto could not hear him) "Has she been breed before?"
Rosie's dad nodded, saying "Yes, with that stray Balto. We didn't mean for it to happen it just did."
The doctor sighed, and said "Well, it's happened again."
Jenna looked up at Rosie's dad, expecting him to be happy like the first time. He wasn't. "Jenna, why did you have to go and do that?" He sounded angry. Jenna whimpered. She didn't understand. "
You don't have to worry," said the doctor. "This one's a miscarriage." Jenna didn't understand these words, but could tell by Rosie's face that she wasn't going to be having pups. She cried and leaped painfully off the table and out the door to the waiting Balto.
"Oh Balto," She could hardly get the words out. "They're They're dead!" She cried again, and Balto comforted her sadly. "Oh Jenna
Jenna went in the next morning to have the lefeless pups removed from her. As the medicine took affect, a single tear escaped her closing eyes. After about 30 minutes of opperating, the doctor froze. He said, "Oh my gosh " He turned to the waiting owner's of Jenna, and in his handswas a living breathing pup that he had removed from
Jenna. Just one. Rosie's dad couldn't help but smile just a little. Later that night, as the medicine wore off, Rosie placed the pup in front of Jenna's nose, and let her smell it. Jenna leaped up, and began licking the pup. "Balto," she said softly, "What shall we call this angel?"
Balto looked right into the blue eyes of his daughter and said, "Noel."
"Noel," repeated Jenna. "My little angel Noel." She nuzzled the pup, as did Balto.
"I guess miracled do happen huh dad?" Said little Rosie.
Rosie's dad just smiled, and ruffled the pups fur. "Hmm," He laughed. "Yes, miracles do happen with these two angels." He petted Jenna and Balto. The 2 parents smiled and nuzzled.
