(five weeks after stars fight one)
chapter one - trap line
star was in his house standing and stretching out stretching his back his legs and his neck. suddenly someone walked in it was dixie she walked up to him and nuzzled him.
"hi star."
"hi dixie."
they said to each other star took a minute and rested and looked at dixie.
"so where you going star?"
dixie asked.
"I'm going to run the trap line with my master."
"oh really."
"yes dixie"
star then walked outside into the cold air it was cold enough to see his breath he took the. time to stretch his legs again then dixie and star walked towards the front door and. walked through the front door inside the master was putting on a big coat and a hat then. he turned to star.
"oh hello, you ready to go trapping."
the man gave a laugh and continued putting stuff on and getting stuff out of a closet star. then turned to dixie.
"why don't you go home?"
she smiled and looked at him.
"oh star."
she then gave him a peck on the cheek and walked back out the front door star stood. their blushing and smiling.
chapter two - on the trap line.
star was in the front they were running through the woods the sound of the sled cutting. through the snow star just loved this sound it made him feel special he loved being the. leader of the sled the feeling of he was in charge of it all every now and then the master. would throw out the anchor and the sled would become to hard to pull so they would. stop while the master went and walk out in the woods a little and check a trap or. something like that this would go on for five maybe eight hours but soon they stopped in. a small clearing the master unhooked the dogs from their harnesses star knew this was as. far as they ever went tomorrow they would head back towards town star was usually to. wound up to sleep so he hardly slept and when he woke up it was early really early.
star was up the sun wasn't even up he walked over to caltag.
"come on caltag get up."
caltag opened one eye and looked at him jumping up and down the caltag closed his eye. again.
"go to bed maybe in a few hours i will get up but not know."
"oh come on caltag."
"no."
caltag lifted a leg and kicked him in the side then star came back and hit him in the face. with his paw.
"Oh ow what did you do that for?"
"You hit me."
Star replied.
"Well if you aren't going to come and get up then I am going to go on a walk."
"Oh, ok."
Then star took off into the woods the snow wasn't that deep but it was over star feet he. Kept walking out into the woods he was no probably a quarter mile away from the sled. He was busy looking at a nearby mountain covered with snow when suddenly it. Happened.
Snap.
And with that sound came a sudden feeling of pain in his hind leg star then looked down. To see his leg in a trap star then panicked and tried to run but as soon as he tried the skin. On his leg broke and blood squirted out profusely and the pain was too much for him to. Bear as he ran around trying to get the trap off but nothing happened star soon calmed. Himself down and cleared his mind.
"Ok now I got to get help now these things will not let go unless you push down on the. Sides of these things."
Star then reached back with his front paws and tried to push down on the sides of the trap. But they wouldn't budge star then fell down backwards and the trap hadn't moved star. Then realized he needed help so he started to bark and yell but their was no reply so he. Kept yelling and barking so on he went and soon a hour passed two three four five six.
Star then realized that they must of left he was on his own and indeed he was he was on. The trap line.
Chapter three - a rescue.
Caltag was running in front as they came into town as soon as they came to a stop caltag. Jumped out and ran down to Jennas house she was sitting down at the back door when. Caltag ran up.
"Jenna, Jenna."
She looked at caltag.
"What wrong?"
"Stars missing."
"Missing well where could he be."
"I don't know but I have to find balto."
"Well he is around here somewhere."
Jenna answered.
"Ok now you go tell Dixie the news and I will find balto."
Then they split up and looked for their people Jenna quickly found Dixie and told her. What she had heard and caltag found balto and told him the story balto soon formed a. search and rescue party and they were getting ready to go.
"Ok does everyone have a partner?"
All the dogs shock their head yes then balto turned and was about to say lets go when a. dog ran up.
"We can't go there is a storm coming."
"What."
Balto asked.
"There is a huge storm on the way."
All the dogs looked and said let go and what's holding us up then balto spoke again.
"No he is right we can leave when a storm is coming we will have to wait until. Tomorrow."
And so the wait was on.
Chapter four - a cold night.
Star was waiting their still the night was growing closer snow began to fall but the snow. Was coming straight down stars leg had swollen to the size of humans hunger ate at him. Like no other all he wanted was to get out and to go home but the swelling seemed to. Mess with his mind he started to hate dogs who liked him.
"Stupid balto that half wolf too afraid or something oh I hate him."
"And caltag him I hate him the most he could of came look for me but no, had to lead. The team back home I will kill him."
All star cold do was say stuff about people that he wouldn't usually say he sat there.
"Stupid, stupid I hate everyone I cant stand them I wish balto was here instead of me I. would laugh and let him die that stupid half breed."
And just as he finished that it happened a wolf came out from nowhere star didn't even. Notice at first but as soon as the wolf stood in front of him he noticed but didn't say. Anything then star spoke.
"Get me out of here."
star pleaded but the wolf just turned it head and studied him for a second.
"didn't you hear me get me out."
star screamed the wolf still just looked then he spoke.
"star you will need help to get out of this."
"no you think now help me you stupid wolf."
the wolf just looked at him then very quietly whispered.
"you must believe."
star just looked at him then the wolf spoke a little louder.
"believe, say it."
Star at first hesitated then looked back up at him.
"I believe."
Star whispered.
"Louder."
The wolf commanded.
"I believe."
Star screamed at the top of his lungs.
Then just suddenly star realized he was lying on the ground he raised his head and. look around.
"Aren't you going to help me?"
The wind suddenly howled around and a voice came.
"Say it."
Star turned his head around and looked for something.
"Where are you?"
Star asked then it happened again the wind.
"Say it."
Star looked in the other direction nothing their then he started to say it.
"I believe."
Chapter five - an old friends.
Five houses had passed since he saw the wolf and now the screams were down to almost. Whispers and nothing had happened in a while star was having trouble keeping his head in. the up position he finally laid his head down and stopped yelling and he laid their and. finally excepted death he lay quiet for several tense minutes then star finally summed up all. His strength and raised his head up.
"I believe."
Star yelled at the top of his lungs and then it was all-quiet except for the wind howling. And the snow falling at one foot an hour the temp was nearly forty below star opened his. Eyes his vision horribly blurred he saw a figure walking towards him it kept coming. Closer until star could tell whom it was but not before passing out suddenly a name came to. Mind.
"Vicky."
Star suddenly realized that he was being held up by someone it was Vicky she was holding. Him up on her shoulder star then realized that she was getting the trap off his horribly. Swollen foot she was pushing down on the sides of the trap she seemed to have some. Trouble getting it off suddenly she got the sides of the trap down and pulled stars foot out. But as she got it out his foot exploded with a mess of blood and puss spraying all over. the ground the pain caused star to try to run but all he did was end up kicking vicky in. the side the falling down face first in the ground unconscious
chapter six - healing.
star realized that he was being laid down on a bunch of pine branches he slowly opened. his eyes he saw vicky standing their she took a moment to breath then she walked out of. the den that they were in then she vanished into the night suddenly star felt utterly alone. and wanted to scream out but he realized it, his mouth didn't move to speak, but the. thought would happen soon vicky came back with pine branches in her mouth she had. some trouble getting it through the small opening she them brought it down in the den. and laid it over star and said.
"their how does that feel."
the thought went through stars mind and he tried to say it but only his lips moved she. then went back up to the opening of the den and pulled another pine branch over the. opening of the den she then went back down to star.
"are you ok."
She asked him but star didn't move but star was too tired to even try to stay awake he then. Almost instantly passed out cold.
Star awoke it must have been late in the day or was it night star thought star then realized. That Vicky was tenderly licking his foot cleaning it but star still was too tired so he slowly. Fell back to sleep.
Chapter seven - getting acquainted.
Star woke up it was late in the day the piece of pine that was over the entrance was gone. And star could see out it was a very nice day the sun shown bright star then realized that. Vicky was no where to be seen he then looked at his foot it looked better it wasn't. Swollen any more but it still was looking disgusting it was covered with a sock made. With scabs is truly the only way to describe it starred hoped up on his other three good feet? And made his way out of the den he then sat down out on the freshly fallen snow he saw. A few tracks that he knew right away were Vicky they led off into some nearby trees. But star waited patiently for her return.
Then he heard it a slow walking it was close and getting closer star strained to turn his. Head to see what it was but he had trouble then it jumped over him while yelling.
"Boo."
Star ducked just as Vicky jumped over him and landed right in front of him laughing.
"Ha ha ha you were so scared."
Vicky yelled out star then gave a sarcastic laugh.
"Ha ha ha."
"Oh lighten up star."
Star suddenly had to ask a question.
"How did you find me?"
Vicky rolled over letting the sun warm her belly.
"You're going to laugh when I tell you."
"No I wont."
Star assured her.
"Well I just had this crazy idea to walk home another way so I did and I saw you on the. Ground you looked so helpless so I helped you."
"Oh makes sense."
They laughed about it for a while and giggled about it then star realized that their were a. thousand questions but one got to him.
"Hey Vicky this isn't where I remember your den?"
She smiled then rolled back over.
"Well I don't stay in one place for too long I travel this place here is about a hundred. Miles from the others."
Star shook his head yes then she walked up to star and looked at his foot.
"Looks better."
Vicky assured him then they sat their for a while just looking at each other.
Mean while back in Nome the first rescue was about to leave they all were at the back of. jennas house balto caltag and nikke were standing on the stairs just outside the house all. the groups were already picked out and they knew where they were going then balto. cleared his throat and spoke.
"ok now you all know where you are going."
all the dogs looking spunky all shock their head yes.
"ok now i hope we can find him this morning now we all should be back by dark so we. can rest up for the night and get ready for the next day."
all the dogs started to separate and head out in the way that they were supposed to balto. turned to jenna.
"you be careful now."
"I will Jenna."
Balto then smiled and turned and dove into the snow and slowly made his way out of. Town.
Balto had planed to make it to the camp in eight hours but it took twelve once they were. There they were already tired and hungry balto then stopped and looked at nikke and caltag.
"Ok now we set out in different directions ok."
They all shook their heads yes and turned in different directions and slowly walked out. Through the heavy snow balto sniffed the air and continued walking out in one direction. Soon it was dark and balto was about a quarter mile out of the camp when he smelled it. He then looked through the woods and yelled out so everyone could hear him.
"Star."
Balto then began to run in the direction of the smell soon he could tell he was close but. Then the smell that made balto almost cringe it was the smell of blood balto had stopped. From his run and now was down to a walk slowly looking then he saw it a big spot of. Blood in the freshly fallen snow he walked up and looked he noticed that their were no. Tracks around then nikke and caltag showed up running and breathing hard nikke was the. First to speak.
"So where is he?"
Balto pointed down with his nose at the spot of blood.
"Oh god."
Caltag yelled and then turned his head away they sat quiet for a few moments when. Nikke spoke.
"So should we tell them?"
"No."
Balto replied.
"We won't tell he could still be alive and I won't give up this quick."
Then caltag spoke.
"So we keep this just between us right"
The others shook their head yes.
"Ok lets get home before it gets too dark."
And they headed off for Nome they arrived nine hours later at Nome and after a quick nap. And food they were off again to search further.
Chapter eight - love.
The next daystar's foot had gotten worse star pleaded with Vicky to let him go outside to. Lay in the sun but she wouldn't stand for it.
"Come on Vicky just for a little while."
"No you are going to stay in here."
She said while she pushed him down and held him down she then began to gently lick. Stars foot several minutes of quiet passed when Vicky looked up at star and asked a. question.
"Star do you love me."
Star was almost shocked by this question she waited is silence for a minute then star. Answered.
"I can't answer that right now."
Vicky shook her head.
"Ok."
She then went back to gently licking star foot then when she was done she stood up.
"You'll be ok."
She then turned around and walked out of the den star soon after stumbled to his feet and. walked after her but as soon as he came up to the entrance she was gone but star looked. Out across the snow and saw her walking away star almost yelled out to her but he stopped. Himself cause when he listened he could here her crying as she walked away star then. Turned and walked back into the den and fell asleep several hours later he awoke and. star could see that she had been crying hard by the way the fur under her eyes was wet.
"Are you ok?"
Star asked.
"Good night."
She replied she then just lay down and went to sleep star just lowered his ears and. slowly fell asleep.
Chapter nine - six weeks later.
It was early morning at Nome balto was sleeping he looked like he was about to die of. Insomnia but suddenly something was nudging balto in the side it was Jenna who looked as. Tired as balto then looked at her.
"What."
"I think you got to stop looking."
Balto sat up hardly able to walk he looked out across all the dogs who were either. Sleeping or eating on Balto's back porch everyone looked tired except Dixie and I bet. They were after searching four six weeks but balto sat up and then looked about all of. Them then nudged caltag who was next to him he swung his paw at balto then rolled over. And mumbled to himself.
"Stupid star."
Balto sat there thinking for a second then he looked up and yelled.
"Attention."
All the dogs sat up and looked at him.
"Go home we won't find him."
Dixie then jumped up.
"No we cant give up he could still be out their."
Balto jumped at her in an angry fit.
"Dixie me caltag and nikke know for a fact that he isn't alive we found a trap covered. With his blood."
Dixie then looked worried and started to cry as she ran home all the dogs watched as she. Ran home then they all slowly separated and made their way home Jenna stopped balto. Before he went inside.
"How dare you say that to Dixie?"
"Jenna, shove it."
Balto almost yelled he then walked in the house and before he could make his way. Across the kitchen he was asleep.
Meanwhile back out at Vickie's den Vicky had been quiet too quiet Vicky hadn't talked to. Star in six weeks star would try to get a conversation going but she would not respond so. In the last week star had just given up trying when.
"Hey star you want to go for a walk."
Vicky asked.
"What... a sure."
Star hoped up onto his feet his foot was now all good and fine all except some missing. Hair it was fine.
Vicky then walked off and star quickly fallowed he then walked up next to her.
"So where are we going?"
Vicky just looked at him and gave a small smile and kept walking star stopped gave a. curious look on his face then walked on after her they then walked for probably five. Miles or so at least it was getting close to dark and Vicky stopped on the edge of a cliff. Star walked up to the edge and looked over it seemed to be a mountain in the middle of. The valley with a cliff that must have been three hundred feet high with trees surrounding it. All then the sun started to go down and star sat down next to Vicky and watched the. Colors of the sky go around and around soon the sun went down then star turned to Vicky.
"That was beautiful."
Vicky then turned to star.
"Sssshhhhh."
Star then turned back and looked out across several minutes passed then as if someone. Turned on a light the sky turned red blue green with the northern lights and then a soft. Wind came up and blew a thin layer of snow off from behind them so it looked like they. Were standing on a snow waterfall watching the northern lights star then put his arm. Around Vicky she smiled and looked up at him.
"I'll take that as yes."
Then they sat there in the blistering cold watching the lights in the dark.
Chapter ten - something is missing.
Star was now happy with life it was now one week later but star had a problem it had. Started a while ago but now it grew and it grew so bad that now star couldn't sleep. Because of it he got up and walked off into the cold woods his breath crackling when he. Breathed he walk aimlessly for hours not knowing where he was going he was getting. The top of a small hill that had one dead pine tree on it he walked up to then he hearted a. sound when he stepped down the sound of snow breaking under a stick star lifted his. Foot and looked at it he then stepped on it again and listened to the sound of the snow being. crushed it took allot off his mind then he knew what he was missing.
"dog sledding."
he said aloud he then thought of his friends balto nikke caltag and dixie what they were. Doing then star realized it he hadn't cared about them finding him since he got trapped but. Then a small tear fell down his cheek and froze instantly star then knew he had to go. Back but this time he was taking Vicky with him he then turned and went back to the den.
Star didn't know when to tell her when it would be right so he just decided to say it.
"Vicky was going back to Nome."
"What?"
Vicky asked.
"Nome I want you and me to go to Nome."
"No."
"Why."
They argued for hours up on hours for three days straight until finally Vicky agreed.
"Please Vicky."
"Ok."
She said reluctantly.
"Then tomorrow we leave."
Star said with a smile and then they lay down to sleep for the night.
Chapter - eleven homecoming.
Star was up very early the next morning as was Vicky.
"So which way to the trap."
Star asked she pointed off into the trees with her paw.
"That way."
"Ok."
star and vicky took off in the direction they walked straight for fifteen miles soon coming. to a place in the snow where the smell of blood was evident star knew this is where he. was he then figured out where the camp must of been and made his way their the snow. was easy to walk on because it was frozen they made their way to town then they saw the. town through the trees vicky suddenly became skittish
"are you ok vicky?"
star asked.
"oh...I'm just fine."
vicky replied in a nervous tone star walked up next to her and threw his arm over her.
"it's ok."
vicky shook her head yes and star walked next to her helping calm her down as they. walked into town star came to a corner and heard balto nikke jenna and dixie talking. together and they weren't talking about star as star thought they would be but without. even thinking star walked out and sat down in the circle.
"what's going on?"
star asked they all just looked at him in awe and silence then balto slowly put his paw. out and felt stars face and as soon as balto felt star's cheek he attacked him and so did. nikke wrestling him down and they all cheered then balto and nikke backed off and. dixie tackled him down and started to just hug him and say.
"I am never letting you go anywhere again."
star stood up and pushed her away.
"what are you doing star."
star gave a half grin.
"I don't love you anymore."
"star stop saying that of course you do."
"No Jenna I do."
Star then realized that Vicky wasn't their he then walked back to the corner that he had. Come around Vicky was hiding down in the snow star looked at her.
"Come on out."
He whispered.
Vicky slowly peaked around the corner at the dogs she then slowly walked out and stars. Walked by her side out she kept her head low to the ground and shuffled her feet when. She got close she sat down still keeping her head down Dixie just stared angrily at her. Then Dixie looked; as she was about to attack she then just turned and ran away sobbing. Then balto smiled.
"So what's your name."
"V...v.vicky."
She answered balto smiled.
"Don't worry were nice."
Balto added so then Vicky balto Jenna and star talked late into the night about where star. Had been and what had happened and they continued like this into the next day then star. Took her back to his house where they slept deep and long Dixie never talked to any of. Them again. Jenna and Vicky turned into best friends with in a week. But Vicky always. kept a secret past about what had happened in her first home and whenever someone. asked what had happened she would turn the conversation and so ends this chapter.
